Ascension: Deckbuilding Game App Reviews

This is a great deal, especially for 99 cents. The gameplay itself is amazing, the only issues I have are with the iOS implementation. The async multiplayer is a little wonky. It seems needlessly complicated and doesnt always notify me when its my turn. The honor pool changes in offline mode are awesome, but Id like it if you could also do it in online games against your game center friends. Id also like to see a campaign mode. The AI is really good, but i think playing alone is less fun without an overall goal.

The online is amazing and it has very balanced gameplay!

Speed up the AI when they get a bunch of shards and draw cards. It thinks way to long trying to create the perfect play. I have quit so many games waiting. Please speed that up.

The card game Ascension is s pretty solid game. It has wonderful synergy between cards and a mechanic that is quick paced and has a good amount of strategic deck building. The gameplay drawback is its ridiculous randomness, particularly when you purchase expansions. At times these expansion sets are reminiscent of playing Chutes and Ladders or Candy Land since you can randomly gain free cards by the dozen. That said, if you are selective with which expansions you buy the game is better balanced. Check board game geek to see which ones are ideal. The real issue with this isnt the gameplay. Its the slowdown. If the AI gets certain cards, too many cards in hand, or too many cards interacting with each other on the table it grinds to a halt. Ive sat and stared for a minute or two waiting for the computer to slog through placing a few cards on the table. In a game where turns last an average of 10 seconds this is truly unforgivable, especially on an iPhone 6. A game as streamlined as Ascension shouldnt consist of 20 minutes staring at nothing and 3 minutes playing. Give this one a pass until playdek does something about the terrible slowdown.

Do not update. Game runs slow. Theyve added a mountain of bugs too. So the game is back to its original format from when I last wrote a review but all my in-app purchases are gone

Terrific time waster. I was really addicted to it until I started running into the bug where the AI slows the game to a crawl. It gets so bad Id rather forfeit and start another game than continue.

My go-to game for quick entertainment. Have purchased every add-on. However, one recent card is ridiculously overpowered ("Adayu the Serene”).Just yesterday I was playing with that card and the app literally crashed with my points in the 3-4K range. Yes, 3-4 thousand. Please nerf this card or have it removed. Also, AI still struggles at times. Sometimes I’m waiting for the computer to play and it takes a minute. My device: iPhone 6S.

This used to be my favorite app. For years I played and enjoyed it. Then recently someone decided to tweak the AI and suddenly you couldnt win a game if you were related to the programmer. Then a couple of weeks ago it got better and I was on the verge of rescinding bad reviews...until the "mad tweaker" returned to his nefarious deeds. Now the AI is killing major monsters and scooping up major cards on the first turn. I wont even go into it. Its just disheartening. I play games and forfeit in the first set of turns. So be it. Its their product to destroy as they please. Buyer beware, in case youre one of those petty people who likes to win every now and then. Aint gonna happen.
